Teaching wildlife conservation, legislation and job navigation for university students

Ho Chi Minh City dated 6 March 2017 – Approximately 20 students from the fifth year of Faculty Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, HCM University of Agriculture and Forestry, learned about wildlife conservation and legislation. They also learned to identify appropriate jobs in wildlife conservation.

The one morning session was delivered by Ms. Huyen Do – Founder & Executive Director of Gaia Nature Conservation. The session focused on importance and urgency of wildlife conservation. It was illustrated with numerous real stories, moving videos and vivid photos of endangered wildlife and wildlife products in Vietnam. Different approaches to wildlife conservation including in-situ and ex-situ methods were explained. The session also introduced different jobs that a veteran would get in wildlife conservation. A test to help the students to understand their characteristics and to identify suitable jobs was also conducted.

The students who are from Advance Veterinary Medicine class were then exciting to discuss about their future jobs and how to choose a suitable job in the coming time. The session did inspire them to take practical action to support wildlife immediately and in the future.
