Ho Chi Minh City, dated 12 March 2017 – Gaia Nature Conservation launched an annual programme entitled “Connecting youth to nature conservation”. The programme aims to provide youth with adequate knowledge and skills on nature conservation and conservation profession. The programme will also provide opportunities for the youth to take part in nature conservation immediately. In the long run, the programme aims to create a larger and stronger supporting force for nature conservation in the future.
This first programme in 2017 with the topic on wildlife conservation will includes six monthly regular meetings. In each meeting, the youth will learn about endangered wildlife, the situation of illegal wildlife consumption in Vietnam and how to protect wildlife through communications and education activities. They will also learn about conservation profession and think critically about what they could do to help. As a part of the programme, the youth will also learn esential social skills those help them contributing effectively to wildlife conservation. The group will then develop a set of communication/education materials and communications campaigns on social network.
Participated in the first meeting of the programme this first year were 14 excellent students who are most enthusiastic to wildlife conservation. They are from different universities in Ho Chi Minh City. After learning about endangered wildlife and situation of illegal wildlife consumption, they learned to evaluate their emerged talents and then claimed a task to develop endangered wildlife factsheets. The meeting was successfully conducted and the students are now exciting to contribute more to wildlife conservation.
“Through creative activities and relax atmosphere, we are determent to help the youth understanding how endangered our wildlife are, to help them learn about wildlife conservation profession and to create opportunities for the youth to act.
